She is the Director of ICMR-National Institute of Immunohaematology, Mumbai one of the premiere institutes of Indian Council of Medial Research. Her areas of interest include Haemoglobinopathies and Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases.
She has spear headed the initiation of the Newborn screening programme for Sickle Cell Disease in India which involves 7 centres from 6 states of India with high prevalence of SCD.
She has also initiated the process of establishment of 'Centre for Research, Management and Control of Haemoglobinopathies' at Chnadrapur. This centre will have the state of the art diagnostic and research facilities and is expected to be inaugurated in the March 2022.
She has 135 publications in the peer reviewed journals and written 10 book chapters.
