Stephan is the Spokesperson of the official German Disease Management Program for Children and Adolescents with sickle cell disease. His main interest has been in newborn screening for many years and he is responsible for the implementation of NBS for SCD in Germany. He is also interested in monitoring complications and quality of life, e.g. by means of apps and mobile devices. Stephan trained at Berlin Charité and holds a master’s degree in hemoglobinopathies of University College London. He is the director of the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Gemeinschaftsklinikum Mittelrhein in Koblenz, a tertiary care and teaching hospital of the university of Mainz.
