Fenella focuses on neurocognitive complications of SCD, collaborating with haematologists in England, Europe, the USA, India and Africa. Her UK, US, European, Middle Eastern, Indian, Ghanian and Tanzanian students and post-docs have successfully defended MSc/PhD theses and published on neuroimaging and cognition. She was a member of the ASH Guidelines and Endpoints working groups. She ran a randomised controlled trial (RCT) of auto-adjusting CPAP with cognitive and MRI endpoints and collaborated with the Kano/Kaduna team on an RCT of low/moderate hydroxurea doses for primary stroke prevention. She is involved in remote transcranial Doppler training for the Global Blood Therapeutics HOPE Kids 2 trial of Voxelator. In 2022, she will commence an RCT of Montelukast in young children (primary endpoint processing speed).
