Eliane Gluckman, MD, FRCP is Professor Emeritus of Hematology from Paris University. From 1976 until 2005, she was the medical director of the Bone Marrow Transplant and Head of the Department of Hematology at Hopital Saint Louis in Paris. She was president of the European School of Hematology from 2001 to 2015. She helped to the development of bone marrow donor registries and cord blood banks. She is member of many international organizations. Currently she is President and chair person of Eurocord and leader of the "International observatory on sickle cell disease". Her main research interests include hematopoietic transplantation for malignant and non malignant diseases in children particularly for hereditary hematological disorders such as Fanconi anemia and hemoglobinopathies. She performed the first successful human umbilical cord blood transplant and demonstrated that unrelated cord blood could be used as a source of hematopoietic stem cells. She has authored and co authored more than 900 papers in peer reviewed journals and contributed to various tex books dealing with stem cell transplantaion.
