Dr Elion, MD, PhD (Paris) did additional training at the Mayo Clinic and NIH. He is Hon. Professor of Molecular Genetics (Université Paris Cité) and former Visiting Professor at the Universidade de São Paulo. He was the Medical Genetics Dept Head (Robert Debré University Hospital). Dr Elion’s research at Unit 1134 [National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm) in Paris and in Guadeloupe (FWI) - Laboratory of Excellence on the Red Cell (GR-Ex)] is focused on pathophysiology, prevention and global care of SCD. Dr Elion has developed extensive international collaborations notably in sub-Saharan Africa, India, the Caribbean and Brazil.
